Found this at a cellar hole in northern RI. I’ve found coins from late 1700s to early 1800s with plenty of tombac buttons. This was the only buckle I found! I’m not familiar with it and my first though was an early suspender but I’m thinking it’s older and possibly a stock buckle.

Oh wow, I wouldn’t have guessed that, what kind of buckle do you think it is?
When you are familiar with buckles from ancient times to the present day, it is not very difficult to determine their age based on their characteristics. 🤔
The buckle would be for a belt; I think it is a woman's belt.

Sure looks like a colonial neck stock buckle to me, they rarely turn up at colonial sites. Nice find !!

Still couldn’t find any concrete evidence it’s modern, unless your definition of modern is 1837-1860 then sure I’ll take modern hahaha! Seems to be an early Victorian era pinchbeck buckle, but still not entirely sure
I follow the PAS (Portable Antiquities Scheme) criteria, considering ‘modern’ to be from 1850 onwards.
