Went back out today at a local park that I have detected at semi-regularly. The first location produced nothing except frustration from the trash and heavy brush. Packed up my detector and headed to a second location that is an old farm site with just a cellar hole and remains of a house. Managed a small buckle and nothing but trash the next few hours and it was getting later in the day when I found this beauty. When it came out of the hole and I got a look at it, I was super excited, this was another first for me and one that has some local and national history to it. I believe it is an 1851 Pattern Officer’s Sword Belt Plate.

Great find, congrats. I have one similar although mine doesn't have the the belt piece on the side or the back. That is in good shape. WTG!

Wow! I was excited to find a lowly eagle button. Would love to find one of those someday. Good job!

Thanks! It is definitely one of the coolest and most interesting finds I have ever found. The historical part of it is very interesting and after finding out a little about it, the location kind of makes sense with both Union and Confederate movements in the area.
