Anchor?

I found this on Palm Island FL beach. It is rust colored and a magnet attaches to it so we're pretty sure it's an anchor. How long would it take for an anchor to become the encrusted and should I do anything to it to keep it encrusted so the shells remain on the anchor!

Cool find.How can you be sure its a anchor? Have you tried weighing it? I used to have a kayak anchor about that size.Anyways it is different.
