Here is a great post:

Back in May 2018 . three years now!
l was searching in a field that l have been searching now for 30 years or more and had not found very much of note. So l was surprised to find several 3rd century Roman radiates. so l was being extra careful using my ten year old standard T2.. eventually l came across a "different " solid signal and sensed that it could be special. At about 10 inches l could see some green down the bottom of my hole.(it was late and dusk ) on a Friday . l could see that it was going to be difficult and would take some time so l filled the hole up and made sure that l could find it again.
l knew that l had found a hoard but l contained myself .(easy when you're over 80)
Rang the FLO over the weekend and left a message . she rang me back Monday afternoon and l met her at the farm that evening . where we arranged to have a small dig with another man from the British Museum the next day (Tues). Spent a long day with them and recovered the coins .
Around 9000 or so. when l know anymore l will add to this post...... Hutch.

and we get excided over a large cent. But hey, we aren't in the UK.

Seems to be a very comprehensive list of stuff coins have been made from, if possibly a little too much so. A lot of the stuff in the list you'll probably never find metal detecting or even otherwise. It's worth noting it seems to just be about what has ever been used to make coins, it's not like a complete list of every alloy ever. All in all, a very interesting read.
