1860's stage stop

I found 2 of these today. 1 feels made of brass the other feels light and thin like it possibly fit over or covered a similar brass piece. Part of a rosette?

concho or rosette, leather/saddle thing. Yes. Not sure of the name, but you get the picture. Only ever find those at super early sites (1850s-70s)

From what I've been told: The leather strip would be threaded in one slot, and back through the next. So that they would be held securely as a fastener, to like "stitch" 2 sheets of leather together.

Sometimes there is lead-filled backing , that is on the back-side of these.

Thanks. That's what was thinking but couldn't find info on. Once I looked up Concha the slotted versions came up.
