And couldn't have found a worse possible place to take it to. I've seriously not seen too many places with that much trash in it.

I was pretty impressed with how well it worked, and did dig lots of trash, just to see how accurate it was. It would disc out the top of the old beer cans completely when using the Zinc disc switch, and about 50/50 on pulltabs when using the Nickle disc.

I really need to take it to a cleaner site, and will, I'll take it over the the parks where I dig lots of clad, there's a whole lot less trash there, and plenty of Zinc Pennies to disc out.

Didn't find anything today, but was nice to get out, and nice to try the newly modded detector.

Try setting the nickel position to just disc out nickels and zinc position to break up on shallow zincs. Then set main disc to accept nickels. Creates a nice nickel ID window. Then you just have to decide how much trash you want to dig between the nickel and zinc positions.

Will do TZ. Depends on where I'm at on how much trashy signals I'll dig. In the trashy area of a park, seldom, out of the main areas, I'm more apt to, on an older site, much of the time. The Tax Token I dug yesterday was one reason why I do, it was a trashy signal.

The only gold I've found so far has been little stuff that discs out before foil
so I keep digging all that little crappy foil just hoping.
Same with some of the better relic bits all seem to be tab zinc range.

Those disc points will help more with coin ID, and seem to make a good
reference scale for the conductive range. Mostly in a park setting.
When it comes to old home sites littered with iron I set it to reject the iron and dig everything. My two best coins were in a hole with iron and didn't make a peep once the disc approached the 5c mark. Those both helped to open
my mind to the whole premise of masking.

LOL, I've got a limited number of "ups and downs" with my knees, which is just another reason I much prefer field hunting. I think we've got a bit of rain in the forecast later this week, so that'll be a good time to do a bit of tweaking on the trim pots.

I have been going through old posts (on here and Finds), and saw where this mod had been done back in 2012, so I'm surprised I'd not seen it until your post.

It seems I read so many posts of people looking for a reason to dig. I must be an oddball because I look for reasons not to dig. Sure, I dig lots of trash, but have made some nice finds over the years. I'm also aware no MD is 100% accurate, and have said many times that there's only one way to positively know what's under the coil, and that's to dig it.

Weird thing I just noticed.
When I first did the mod my test garden was relatively new.
It would reliably disc out the 4" and 6" nickel.
Now, 4 months later it won't disc out the 6"
Even with the regular disc control the 6" nickel hits almost to pull tab.
Same with the mojave I have.
The 4" one still discs out normally
I'm guessing that corrosion is making it up average???
I've dug a bunch of nickels with the modded compadre
that have disced out perfect when I toggle to nickel position.

Does sound odd, but not really surprised it was different once the soil settled/compacted. Not sure about any halo-effect, how long between tests? Was the ground dry initially, and damp on your last test?

I dug 3 nickles with DeLeon yesterday, most I'd dug at one time in a while, and I dug plenty of pull tabs. Just seems like nickles aren't dropped as often as the rest.

I should go out and tweak mine some, since nothing else going on today. After a noon nap of course, lol.

I hadn't done anything (adjustment wise) since last posting here, and I'm kind of glad I didn't.

Took the Compadre out this AM, and dug lots of clad, as well as a sterling silver ring. I dug WAY less Zincolns, and ended up with 8 nickles. The zincs close to the surface didn't disc-out, which is OK, because I know I probably left 50 in the ground.

If it went silent on both push/pull of the disc switch, I batted about 60/40 pull tabs to nickles, much better than I usually do.
