Any tips for getting the most from it as I know its a popular machine. Coil
choices? Settings?

I have no secret settings for the MXT... I run 2 tone, no discrimination, I only hunt private property because I learned a long time ago the MXT loves rusty bottle caps and parks are loaded with them... as far as coils are concerned I use the 10 inch DD that came with it but plan on getting a 6x8 SEF and a 13" ultimate for crop field hunting..

The 6x8 SEF is a great coil , I use mine for all types of hunting , I have used several coils , but find that one to be my favorite.

It should work well in the heavy ferrous properties I hunt... Whites should have worked on a program for ferrous bottle caps.. my T2 had a wonderful bottle cap program that when you swung in 1 direction the bottle-cap would null.. I would dig them just to make sure but after a while I was confident I wasn't missing anything... I sold it because it was affected by any source of EMI and it really bugged me.

Since picking up the MXT I haven't even attempted to beach hunt

bottle caps are Pain in the BUTT!!!! I will tell ya my MXT was awesome loved it to death but the only thing was it loved to swing out good tones for rusty bottle caps!!!!

I hunt NJ farms and old cellar holes,beaches. The MXT was deep and smooth but those darn iron/rusty things made me nutz!

My fav coil was 10x6. That machine was sweet at pulling beep targets. I am talking legit 9-10 inches for mercury dimes! Also we have mild soil on the places I hunt.

I have since moved on to the vx3.

My first suggestion with the MXT is to adjust your swing speed to the point it isn't falsing at the ends of the swing. That should provide a good approximation in matching swing speed to the build in recovery delay of the machine. When I first got mine, I was swinging pretty fast and kept getting these nice quarter and half-dollar signals at the ends of my swings. Drove me crazy. I slowed down a bit and things were all nice and quiet.
