Yesterday was pretty nice, mid to upper 40's. Sun was shining, and my wife wanted to try some field hunting again. She didn't get much while with me, no real keepers, but she had fun and says when it warms up she will try again.
I got a crotal bell, the badge item with the star, few relics, some wheats, 2 indians 1903 and 1867. She had to get home to do a few things, so I dropped her off and hit a field I have hunted many times, it gave up 14 indians and a LC last year, but not a single silver. I was out there 2.5 hrs and nothing, yip, nada....I was going down one last row and told myself this is it, heading home after this row. I got a deep 01-36 signal from both directions, figured it was a nail, but dug anyhow since it hit from 2 ways. About 9" down out comes my first silver of 2012 a 1876cc seated dime, it is beat up, but I love seated coins regardless. Good way to end the day, and great first silver for the year. Went out in my yard and taught myself to dig plugs with my left hand, it is clumbsy and slow but I managed so...Today I hit a real small yard, like 15 feet of grass on sides and front, real small. Hit it once in conductive, coin mode. Got 4 wheats, chinese cash coin, and silver rosie. Iron was real intense, so I went over it again in TTF and picked up a buffalo and a 1895 indian, both with nails in the hole. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

yep, newest indian we pulled from that field was 1880's, not a single wheat has ever been found there, so i am guessing it was tore down by then

ok posted the badge in the "what is it" section on t-net and it appears someone ID'd it already, here is another one someone dug
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.p...,358345.0.html Sometimes attributed as a Texas or Mississippi star device from the Civil War, and may indeed have seen wartime usage; however, it appears to have been civilian in origin. Listed as an "unknown shield" on p. 81 of Stanley S. Phillips' Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields and Campsites of the Civil War, 1861-1865. Also listed on p. 61 of Supplement I to the same book: "Unknown brass shield with solder-filled back. Possibly breast plate for horse harness. Variant sizes have been found." __________________ |

I dug that EXACT bell a few months ago! I found it by a silver thimble. It still rings nicely. __________________ |

Those are great finds, especially considering you were able to hunt in January! I too would be thrilled to find any seated coin in any condition. Congrats!
