Default I ask a lot of questions here haha, this one in regards to batteries.

Like I've stated in many posts.. I have the bounty hunter platinum.. my stepdad works for a battery company, and he gave me a box of 9volts.. only thing is they expired last year.

Found a lot of good things (altho the battery life of them is about 1hourish and then it goes to half battery).

But today it just seemed weird.. I literally dug a meteor sized hole (at least a couple feet around .. its in my yard so its okay).

and it kept sayin there was a dime object, 0 inches below the ground. But the thing is i literally had the hole 5-6 inches deep, and larger than the search coil. Could the expired batteries be screwin wit me? Because I would raise it up and it would say 3 inches.. then id go to the top of the ground in the hole, and it would say 0 inches but it was never there (nothing could have been 0 inches .. not even dirt)

Large pieces of metal will do exactly what you describe. They register shallow but in reality they are way deeper.
The reverse holds for very small items. They register deeper than their actual depth.

I think the batteries are not the cause of this.
