Hi all! Just in case you have been wondering where Vlad and I disappeared to, we took a roadtrip to South Dakota to check out a house there for sale, and we decided to get it and move to the country.

We visited Tripp, SD and love the looks of the small town life. Tripp has a population of 600! 1 grocery store, 1 bank, 1 gas station, 1 bar and grill, 1 new and used furniture store, 1 hardware store, 1 lumberyard, and 1 dentist (that does everything) and a small hospital. They have a park with swimming pool and 4 camping spots. 1 post office, and I think, 4 churches... and virtually no crime.

What Vlad liked best was the open landscape, and of course the shooting range.

So, here's our plans, we've been packing up the house the past couple of days and we're going to try to get out of here before Memorial Day if possible.

We may be offline till June 1st, till our phone and DSL gets hooked up.

Downtown Tripp

Here's a view of Main St Tripp. All the streets are red, like some kind of crushed red clay or something.

All of the small towns are laid out 10 miles apart. Here's a typical farm view. But really, my camera does not do justice to the beauty of the landscape.

Congratulations! I hope your move goes well.

I'd like to move to a small town like that sometime in the future. People are usually just so much more friendly and closely nit.

My parents were from a small town in Georgia. We used to go visit relatives there when I was younger, up until I was a teenager. Nobody there ever locked their doors, didn't have to. It was just so much different that here (Orlando, FL).

Tripp Shooting Range

Thanks Hobbs, it was quiet there and yes the people are really laid back and friendly.

With a population of 600, I can feel the quiet even here! :)

That's a great looking place with plenty of land all around. I love that kind of living.

You're going to be busy with the move, but enjoy!

Welcome to Tripp!

Thanks angellionel, you can imagine how excited we are. We're ready to say goodbye to the East Coast and head to the plains.

Here's the town sign where you turn to go to Tripp.

Fort Randall Dam and Resevoir

Fort Randall Dam is about 30 miles south of us, which we got to see, and here's the Fort Randall Chapel built in 1856, it's loaded with history

Then we stopped at the Fort Randall Casino for their evening buffet.

Mitchell SD

Mitchell is the closest large town (13,500) and is located 30 miles north of us, home to the famous Corn Palace. Yes it's covered in corn on the cob.

Well, that's it for now. We'll try to keep you updated on our progress.

Want to see pictures of us trying to pack?

South Dakota welcomes you

Let me be one of the first South Dakotans to welcome you to the state. I am in Sioux Falls about 70 miles east of Tripp. We should detect some time. I am a avid shooter too Vlad. HH

Thanks for the warm welcome DeepBeeps. Nice to know we have hunting buddies all over the country. Haven't made it to Sioux Falls yet, but we're bringing our motorcycle and it's on our list of "to do's" :D

I love small town life. The lack of traffic and crime is great. I think you're going to love living in a small town also.

Congrats on your new home! Never been thru Tripp but I have seen the Corn Palace several times going out to the Black Hills. I hope your move is safe and without problems.

Thanks folks, SD is just what we were looking for! It's going to be so much fun, I can't wait!!!

OK back to packing...
