Default Is this a shotshell?

The rim says WRA 410 super speed. The smaall lettering says, Made in USA. Any ideas on age? Found at a field thats been around since the 1820s or so. About six inches down.

Yes, it is a shotshell head. It is a .410 Super Speed made by Winchester. It will date from 1937-1961/2. Nice find.

Tks Doug. Ive never seen such a small shotgun headstamp before. The size threw me a little. What do they use them for? Birds?

I'm sure you could hunt some birds with a .410, especially things like blackbirds, starlings, etc. Most of the people that I know that shoot them, use them for small game hunting like rabbit and squirrel. There are some that do use the .410 for deer hunting, but that is frowned on by many hunters and illegal in some states.

I have one that is actually smaller. It is a 9mm rimfire shotshell made for the Winchester Model 36 rimfire shotgun. It was often referred to as the "Gentleman's Garden Gun".

The 410 is becoming an increasingly popular round for home protection as well, since the introduction of the Taurus judge.

They're nice guns.....the judge is my second Taurus that I own, they had a bad rap years ago, but I think their quality has improved. Tell you this, shooting a .410 shotgun shell out of a revolver packs quite a kick.....it shoots 45 colts as well.

Sorry....

LOL KT uses His Royal .410 firestick to rid the Palace grounds of those pesky fuzzy tailed tree climbing rodents! Last spring one box of .410 shells (60) took out 56 of those tree rats!

You would too if you had had to fork out over $3000 to repair that damage they did in the Palace attic the year before!
