Hi guys, merry Christmas to everyone. Just wondering is anyone can recommend a good detector for wet sand. I have a garrettt ace 250 and it gives false readings on wet sand sometimes which is pretty annoying. If anyone can recommend a good wet sand detector thatd be great.

Soverign GT is a top machine for the wet sand.

The "best" is one of about four-five machines. The most affordable being a Pulse Induction machine, the Tesoro Sand Shark - which I own and use. Minelab makes hybrid VLF/BBF wet/dry machines, but you could buy two machines, a PI and a VLF, for the cost of a single Minelab. Great question though, always love when it comes up every other day..

I also agree with the Sov GT..... Very light weight and is very sensitive to the good targets.

On my beaches if I used a PI I could build my own
lobster and crab traps with all the broken pieces of wire I would be finding. Hey they don't call us DIRTY JERSEY for nothing now!!

sajsww If you plan on getting in the water
past your knees take a look at this machine. Minelab Excalibur II Here is a very good site where you can see what others have to say about it. http://metaldetectorreviews.net/dete...xcalibur2.html Lots of reviews here. |

I really like my Dual Field for the wet sand, especially if there is a lot of black sand present or I want a little more depth. If there is an abundance of rusty iron I will use the Excal II for its discrimination capabilities. If you can find a White's Pro PI, that is also a great detector IMO. HH!

Its has great depth, awesome discrimination plus a good target will come through the discrimination if its there...

I'm with Craig, if your not going into the water, the Sovereign. Conditions will be different from beach to beach and the Sovereign will allow for the best all around performance. I would advice checking out what the locals use also, many of these Old Timers have hunted those beach's for years and they know what works in your area

Only thing that bugs me about my GT is not necessarily the detector itself. I always find myself wondering what is just a little further/deeper out. Never used an Excalibur, but think it would be great in the neck/chest deep if it's as similar to the Sovereign as people say. It's a long ways off, but I'm considering a new Sand Shark or a used Excal as my next detector.
--edit-- now that I think about it, more realistically, it'd probably be a used ss |

Wet sand is Sovereign country.
Water is for the Excalibur / CZ Unit or maybe a PI unit But I find an older Sovereign can keep up to the GT very well. Minelab raised the Price of the GT twice in the last year and a half. I love Minelab detectors. I have great respect for the Sponsors on here that sell them. But Minelab can stick the price of a new GT. Look around for a used one if you decide to go that route. __________________ |

The best water detector has not been made yet. It's going to have the weight of a Sovereign GT, full search coil changeability, the depth and sensitivity of a Minelab GPX Pulse unit, waterproof, with full iron discrimination and multi conductive tones(love to hear those low tones before I dig them), and EMI cancellation.
I'd buy one right now if there was such an amazing machine!! The Excalibur would be the closest to this, but it's a poor machine in black sand conditions, and it's poorly designed(too many big knobs). Come on Minelab....Step up to the design table and make this machine a reality. If you just want a great wet sand detector, then I agree with most....Sovereign GT. Raphis __________________ |

I have no doubt for the money the Sov is the best BEACH machine. In the water i guess im stupid and bought one of those expensive Xcals.... oh no i didnt pay full price and oh ya its paid for its self in the first month. There is a learning curve with a PI that you dont have out of the box with the Xcal in trashy areas. Some beaches just dictate disc not AM to cover more beach. I believe any water machine will pay for its self..... how much patience do you have?
