Metal detecting got me back earlier this year after a long time of being involved in collectibles field. I sold lots of collectibles to get money back. I need to get out for fresh air and excerise in form of MDing. I am glad that I am back in MDing after 16 years. I am very addicted to MDing. Everytime when I got home from my work,I quickly changed from my work uniform to street clothes and I go out to totlots to hunt for coins for few hours. I got very large coin finds in 5 months this year including my first silver Rosie dime and my first ring and my first piece of jewelry. Next year I resume MDing to find more coins and jewelry. I love MDing much as I do collecting older US coins.

I do it for the thrill of finding lost things from long ago as well as getting peace and quiet and the thrill of the beep.

In it for the history and the treasure. The time to myself is a bonus, and nice, but the excitement I get when I find a coin or relic that 150 years old is something I cannot even express in words. I've been a collector my whole life of different things, but an old coin or civil war relic is the best. Just wish i got into mdetecting sooner.

For me it started when I read Treasure Island for the first time. About that time I started asking my parents to buy me several treasure hunting magazines, reading the articles and imagining how cool it would be to some day do that myself. Years later I was at my in-laws house and noticed a Whites IDX box gathering dust, the detector only used once. I took it out and on one of my first hunts dug up an 1853 seated quarter in AU condition. I had never seen a seated qtr and assumed it was some kind of token or something. I was from then on forever hooked. BTW, I'm one of those detectorist that passes on shallow zinc signals...I know, I know...I'm missing possible gold. For me it's all about the old coins. I dream about digging old copper!

I got into it for the sense of adventure, exploring the unseen world under our feet. You never know what's down there until you dig, and the detector let's you know something interesting might be just under the surface. I don't realistically believe I'm going to get rich off the stuff I find, but there is always a chance of finding something long forgotten, and no one else without a metal detector, will like find.

Past few months have been mostly junk metal, and very few coins, but I keep saving it. and know it'll be worth a few bucks when i cash in at the salvage yard. I know the areas I hunted so far, have a lot less trash, I won't need to deal with, when I decide to get a better machine, and go back over the more interesting areas. Finding metal junk, does tell me that people have been there, and probably left other things as well.

Yep, that's me exactly. I don't really care about the exercise, the fresh air, the peace and quiet, etc... It's the excitement about finding what is lurking just below the surface. Just my opinion; others are just as valid. Tim
