Default Small tribe of indians this weekend

Here in indiana the ground isnt frozen but it sure is muddy. If its not frozen i detect.
Well i found a house site on my 1865, 1874, 1882, 1891maps but not on my 1909 map. The house site is very far from the road so i knew there would be little to no trash. I found the typicial house stuff. Spoons, shotgun brass, lead.
The coins are 1866, 2-1880, 1896 indianheads. No silver but still a fun hunt. Nice thing about these indians are you can read them. They arent to crusty!!!

No not a fatty. They stopped making fatties in 1863 so i was close. They also dont hold up as good as the newer ones here in the indiana soil.

As much as I enjoy finding silver, I also enjoy finding indians. I purchased a used indian head coin book from a coin dealer to put my md found indians in. So far only have about a half dozen or so, and only one pre-1900. Just curious about how much of the book I can fill.

Fellow Hoosier here, and I've been wanting to go out and detect, but it's wayyy too cold for me. I've been in Hawaii since July, so this is intolerable weather for me. Hope I can get the motivation that you have! Congrats on your finds!

Nice bunch of indians. I found a 1866 indian head penny back around 1988. It was in one of my curb strip hunts in a small town here in Michigan where I lived at the time. After digging it up and seeing how old it was I thought about what the spot might have been back then as I was sure no house was standing there when it was lost. I figured maybe they rented horses out there but thought kind of the wrong end of town to have a business like that , north east end of town. I think I had looked the coin up back then and in good shape it was worth $70.00 if I am right seems like only 200,000 were minted . That was too long ago for me to remember for sure.

I turned what coins survived me leaving things with family over to my youngest Daughter as I knew she would take care of them and show them to my grandson's. At the time I left things with family she was too young. She always loved looking at my Bufflo Nickles and my son loved the silver dollars. My other three daughters never showed any interest in my old coins. My kids are 40 d, 38 s, 36 d, 32 d, and 30 d, I have 16 grand kids. So far none of the grandkids show much interest in metal detecting but I plan on taking two of them detecting sometime i kind of think they may get the interest going. Me mentioning it to my son's son has sparked his interest. I call him my HHR bandit as he got up one morning and got my keys to my brand new HHR in 2006 and I woke and noticed my keys missing , ran out and caught him trying to start the car and move it . I remind him about it now and then when he stays over, like this week.

Yep...i bet you are enjoying this warm Christmas weather....I just wonder if it's a BAD sign of things to come.

I've been too busy to get out....it was sunny and big-time hunting weather today. I almost cried!

Love those indians...gotta be some silver close by!
