Default Old Bell?

Hi All, This is my first post. I found this little bell today and I was wondering if anybody knows how old it is and what it was used for. Thanks. The bell is about an inch in diameter.

Default It just rattles

The ringer thing is just a clump of rusted iron. Thanks for the reply.

Default it's a crotal bell

it was used to have audible contact on livestock as well as pets. They can be fairly old. Ask around and I'm sure you can get a more detailed ID. I've found two thus far, but They were both split, to bad they don't match.

Very nice crotal, Bruno. Does it still have the ball in it?
My first was 2 inches across and it's my favorite bell to date! Looks just like yours too... well, close, anyway (I'll see if I can add a pic of mine. Everything's so different in here now).
That's a great find!

I found one a month or so ago, looks identicle to mine. Does it have a number engraved anywhere? Mine has a tiny 2 , I am deffinately no bell expert , I thought they were sleigh bells. Is their a Difference?

I have found several at a old house site. The newest coin i found at the site was 1895 Indianhead penny. I would think this would be the age. I didnt see a number on yours but most i have found have a number around the opening on the bottom. 1-9 The smaller they are the smaller the number. Hope this will help you a little. Look around and you should find coins!!!!!

Technically its a Rumbler Bell, a Crotal Bell is earlier & cast in one piece. The rumbler has the loop attached after casting.

Late 18th Century or Early 19th Century Sheep or Goat bell.
