Default Have you ever found what others misdug?

Here in Greenville Michigan I found a 1903 Barber Dime on top of the soil under a leaf , nice round hole no grass leval from rain. Found three wheat pennies next to a hole down in or down in a hole a bit more. One copper momorial penny off to the side under undug grass someone misdug again. I seen signs of someone metal detecting all over town since August this year.

Just wonder how many others see signs of others being there first but not finding the target they were after?

Oh, many times. My pal silversmith45 is a master at this. He will hit something in holes that were left several times during a hunt.

I went to a park and saw fresh plugs that were cut. Ran my detector across a couple and found a few quarters. I think they didn't know how to pin point and did not have a pin pointer. Also followed a vet of the hobby and ran my coil across there plug . Found a silver rosie that was left behind.

Maybe they are using an at pro? They really, really stink at pinpointing.

I've done this several times to my friend, Ray. He's been detecting over 40 years. He's always leaving silver in the hole. I've taken a silver quarter, a silver dime, and an 1899 quarter from him because he either didn't want to dig the signal or left it in the hole. He doesn't seem to learn!

I did a few weeks back. An older fellow was hunting on a local beach swinging away back and forth. I wasnt having much success so I went up to where he was swinging as he was walking along the shoreline. I was near his trail when I got a "beep" on me Cibola. Dug up a dime and followed along his trail when I dug up a few more clad coins.
Dunno what the heck he was searching for but I dug up pennies to quarters trailing behind him at a distance of maybe 30 yards.
I thought I'd find something because he was swinging about 6 feet wide, whereas my hunting area is maybe 4 feet wide tops.
He never did turn around and as I was busy digging up behind him, he continued on where before I knew it he was too far away from me.
I didnt do that good that day, nor did I do that bad. On the other hand, the old guy dug up a handful of targets but he was missing all that I picked up.

I make finds like this from time to time. Last one was a nice Mercury dime on edge with a huge scratch. Since I uncovered it with my fingers, I know my digger never touched it. I figure the last person hit it, pushed it sideways, then couldnt detect it again. But there have been many coins over the years that were obvious misses by another hunter.

I've found targets I'd missed inside my own holes. I was detecting an area that had a lot of clad and a few spills. After clearing out spills (or so I thought) I would run my detector over the area again and, with no beeps, I'd move on. A while later I'd meander back around the same area, hit a ton of signals, bend down and realize they were coming from the plugs I'd dug an hour or two prior It's crazy how a different angle or sweep pattern can find or ignore a target.

yeah not everyone has a pinpointer, and people just give up on the plugs and go to another.

I am surprised at how many people don't recheck their holes or master pinpointing their machine. I also remove a lot of trash that they leave in their holes. I find a lot of coins only inches from where they dug. Once I found $1.85 in change in a two foot area next to a hole with a piece of trash in it.

I have had the same thing happen to me....I have found 2 rings after I thought I had scooped the hole (beach hunting)....dig, check, rinse in the ocean wash, then go back to the hole only to find the target on the "rim" of my hole. I alway double check my holes if it the target is not in the scoop.
