Hello. I live in california and have an At-Pro. I am basically happy with the AT-Pro. But I think I might be a bit hogtied by my local soil. My ground balancing regularly runs into the 90's..out of 100. I have never found coins much deeper than 6, maybe 7 inches. I have a pile of clad but nothing older. In a previous post I touched on this and another member stated that he had the same conditions and depth...and that his Safari pretty much got the same depths. My question is...would a gold-specific detector or coil help this? Arent they meant to do better in higher mineralized soils? X-terra 705 with the gold-pack coil? Teknetics G-2? At-Pro gold?

I don't think the frequency has much to do with depth in soil conditions. I could be wrong though. I get a max depth of about 5 or 6 inches in my soil using my E-trac with the pro coil. My compadre gets about 3 inches. Sounds like you're doing just fine digging 6 or 7 inches. I'm jealous.

I second that. I think the frequencies only affect depth of metals of different conductivity. Gold detectors can detect gold much deeper than say a silver coin where a coinshooting machine will not hit very deep on gold.
We have great soil in Boston my Etrac goes easily up to 12+ inches __________________ |

Hmm..so I guess I just have to live with where I live. Well....its cold out here today...it dropped from 75 to about 65. Maybe I have to look at that side of living in california and count my blessings.

I used to live in Los Angeles! I would love to move back! We get 5-6 months of non-detecting winter weather up here!

I dont think i've seen it drop much below 50 during the day even middle winter like january. But it depends on where you are....I could drive 45 minutes into the foothills and it will drop to the 30's with ice and snow. And it its mid 40's at night now...not exactly warm.

Marco ,
I have the ATP and the E-trac and the MXT. With the ATP My soils auto balance out 90's..out of 100 also. With the E-trac I have found a bunch or coins in the 9 to 10 inch deep range. With the MXT I have found coins about ,up to the 6 inch depth range. I dug a gold man's wedding ban with the MXT that was at 9 or 10 inches deep. 99.8% of the time the MXT and the ATP sits home on the shelf. I Just prefer to use the E track. (An Yes I have found Gold with the E-trac !) Some of the local Guys that Have the ATP, Claim they Get more depth with it when they Ground balance and bump it down a few numbers. I haven't tryed that so You might wan't to give that a test. Also Remember The ATP Has 3 frequencys that you can choose between while your hunting at the push of a button . labyrith

Thanks for the tip...I will try tweaking the ground balance. I've lusted after the ETrac ...but cant quite justify the $$ yet. I could probably "swing" it if I sold a few things..(like my AT)...but Im not quite at that point yet.

Can't get much past 4" here in Birmingham.
Like bonesquat, we are very jealous of anything more than that. __________________ |
