Any idea sterling thing??

Hey any idea what this thing is? It is marked sterling around the very point base. Looks to be a top to a danity perfume bottle or an ink well or what I have no idea. Any help?

Don't think that was ever a stopper for a bottle, but I'm stumped. It could have been a pendant for a chain, and the loop has broken away.

looks like the hanging weight of a fan pull chain.
