Angry Setback

I returned my AT-Pro for repairs, I got it back and invested in upgrade, even though I thought it was fine the way it was, I thought for the additional price Garrett would renew my warranty and I would have more rigidness during swing.

Well first time out, after repair, the MD works flawlessly, and I am having a blast back in business again.

I laid my Pro Pointer down on a picnic table, walked about 100 feet away, reached for pro pointer, remembered I laid it on picnic table, went back to get it and it was gone.

I searched frantically, but who ever grabbed it, was out of my view, probably watching me as I frantically searched.

I have gone out Metal Detecting since, but I really need another Pro Pointer, but I lack the funds.

Bummer, it sure makes a difference in enthusiasm when you are use to using a pro-pointer, and now have to do without. Dadgumit!!!!

That sucks!!!! I can not stand a thief.. Heck if you are going to steal it then at least tell me I will more than likely give it to you if you need it bad enough to steal.

Some things just piss me off. Truth of it is the bung hole who took it don't even know what it is. Maybe talk to one of the sponsors let them know what happened and they'll hook you up.

Not sure if you are in a big city or not, but watch your local craigslist for you property.... for me a lot of things are worth forgiving, a thief is not one of them!

I always mark my things, on the inside when possible.

Check local pawn shops in the next week or so also. Chances are whoever has it will at least google search what it is and try to pawn it if all else fails. You could call the shops and let them know its missing.

I nearly lost my ProPointer. I left it at a Park at 2pm, remembered it on my way to work but didn't have time to get it. Got out of work at 2am and went to the park with a flashlight and it was right where I left it.

100 feet away? Man, there are few things I'll leave unattended at that distance, if I'm by myself, specially in a public place, like a park. Sorry for you loss, $130 is painful, and a tool you us a lot as well. What else did you leave on the table, or was it just the one item? People do leave things, besides beer bottles behind, on picnic tables. Found a cellphone once myself, early morning, walking my dog. It was covered in dew, so know it had been there most of the night. Waved down a police car that was passing by, let him deal with it. Look like a nice one too. Found a few items, which I've kept and used, mostly sidewalk/parking lot, things, where the owner may or may not of returned later to recover. The best one was a nice Maglite flashlight, even had the LED upgrade, looked brand new too. Don't get me wrong, I'd never pick something up, on or near someone's property, where someone is obviously working, or next to businesses. If there was no one else in the park, or anywhere nearby, I'd probably have picked it up as well, if it were the only item on the table. People leave things behind occasionally.

My dad taught all about taking care of tools, while I was growing up. Mostly cleaning them and putting them away, and he checked too. If it wasn't to his satisfaction, I got to start all over, he'd pull out every tool he used that day, even some he hadn't touched in months, and watch me wipe them down, and carefully place them in their correct spot. He didn't mind us using his tools, but they had to be clean, and back where we got them, or a painful reminder would follow...

Sorry about that, but I learned the hard way, about being careful with tools, right tool for the job, and never leave them laying around. Personally, I don't see $130 in a ProPointer, have to actually use one some, and see a very huge difference over the Harbor Freight, or Bounty Hunter pinpointers I currently have. Neither would cause me a lot of grief, if lost, stolen, or broken.

KT sympathizes with you, but will never have that happen cause He uses the belt holster that came with it to hold it when not in use!

Default Sorry

You lost your PPer. There are some people who will steal anything. I had my camera bagged a month ago. The other day I had the battery replaced in my car. The ashtray was full of quarters, maybe 20 bucks worth. They were half gone. Forgot to tip the tech, just as well.... Good thing he didn't check out the sunglass door up above. He would have hit the jackpot.
A couple months ago I found a gps on the golf course. Must have bounced out of a cart. The good thing was it had the owners name, addy, tele and email info stuck to it. That saved him 350.00. I mailed it back to him in Punta Gorda. A happy camper. Get your name on your gear! Not everyone is a crook. Engraved stuff is hard to peddle at the pawn shop....Gil

I have given it some thought about getting a pin pointer. I metal detected off and on since 1973. I used a screwdriver for years to make the plug and peel back the grass by hand. I bought a plug knife tool and even had a plugger. The plugger is nice but leaves a brown circle when the grass dies out. For coins down to 3 inches I have no problem making a single slit over where I believe the coin is and losening the soil and in with fingers or a finger and the screw driver to pull the coin out. After 3 inches I want to make a plug or flap so I can dig out dirt. I have never owned a pin pointer but believed it would speed things up on the near to surface coins. I think I got back into pinpointing with my detector and can pretty much hit the spot. I realize now a lot of those coins I was after and didn't probe could have been rings or pull tabs or nuts . I would probe and probe not finding it and now realize why I assumed they were a coin.
I watched video of guys using the pin pointers and it looks like they do a lot of extra work finding the coin.

I've got a like-new Harbor Freight Pin Pointer you can HAVE if you want to throw $7 this way for shipping.

It's not a Propointer that's for sure, but it's better than nothing.

Sorry you got ripped off. I've dropped mine before (slipped out of the crappy holder) and was fortunate to find it.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I will wait and see what toy I can sell and then purchase a new Pro Pointer.

Thanks Again, That was a very nice offer.

I guess it is what you become use to.

Your method is the best method to know, I have tried it and it is difficult now that I am spoiled by using the Pro Pointer.

Now I pass up opportunities to go searching, because I don't have my pro pointer.
