In my research I discovered a really great, well inhabited recreational site dating back to at least the 1950s, though I'm pretty sure it's been around a lot longer than that. Now it's just an overgrown field/woods. There were a few buildings up until the 70s when they were torn down, but the main area stayed in use until the early 90s. Ruins of the buildings are still visible/accessible.
My buddy and I went there the other night absolutely certain I'd find my first old coin. Nope. Tried again today. Nothing. The place is completely saturated with trash including a ripped up recliner and matching sofa. Since I've got such a low-end model employing any discrimination settings aided little. I graduate from college in December, so I'm thinking of buying a new detector as a present to myself. I don't have a ton of cash (think college budget) are there any detectors that fit the bill: not incredibly expensive, good discrimination, maybe even some depth features or gives an idea of what type of metal it found? I'm mainly interested in coins. I don't know if there is a particular machine that's better suited for one thing or the other... |

Let me throw in my .02
The Fisher F2 is a great coin machine! Has good discrimination, notch features, pinpoint mode, and is EXCELLENT at pinpointing (I don't even use a pinpointer more often than not, it is THAT good at pinpointing a target!). Fast recovery speed, and great target separation. Has digital ID screen , multiple target tones, is light weight, 5 year warranty, can be had for around $200. I love my F2 and it has held it's own with other detectors that I've hunted along-side! ![]() And... it will not be overwhelming with too much to learn like some of the other more expensive detectors my ....02! __________________ |

The ATPro seems great in the trash. From what I've seen anyway. I'm considering one.

Have to agree with Ozarks. I really like my F2 that I bought from one of the sponsors of this site. Very good deal and less than what you would pay on something like amazon. Call some of the sponsors, you will get a better deal (check the classifieds here on this site, they show some sponsor deals there too). I do have to say I have been in one very trashy area in my yard and you will still get junk ringing up, but I've usually been able to tell the coins from junk. Pinpointing is very good especially watching the readout it helps alot. I will say though that I can only compare this to an older white's coinmaster though, so listen to some of the other posters that have had multiple detectors.

I love my F2. Got the 2 coil package for a little over 200.00 and it has done me well!! Relics, silver coins and jewelry! It finds it all! Would like a machine that went a little deeper, but to start out, its choice!!
