Default Odd tracking question

I know that some of you may do this already so i figured id ask. I like to venture into the woods on a hunt, or hunt a very large field over a matter of a few days. I would like to keep track of where i have been in the field, or be able to aimlessly wander the woods and be able to find my start position. I really dont feel like dropping over 100 bucks on a gps tracker from radio shack. Im not worried about like topographic maps, just something to keep track of my movements. I have an android phone that is capable of doing this. Has anyone on here used any app before that you can track your progress on a field, or set a start point and go into the woods? Any input would be appriciated. Thanks

Another option is buying these at the local home improvement center.

Survey Flags

Do 25' square blocks at a time, leave the flags in place until done (or move them as you go, leaving a "frontline" to keep from rehunting the same spots). This is assuming you could leave them in place for a while.

I have used the flags and bright colored golf tees (the long ones).

The only thing i have found close to what im looking for is mytracks on my phone. this is the closest i have found to a garmin. The thing im looking for is an app that does the same thing as like a gps that you would take hiking or skiing.

I purchased what was at the time the "latest and best" Garmin GPS for my car. I have wasted my money on some real junk in my life but the Garmin is by far the worst piece of junk ever. The only thing if does well is say "recalculating". If you buy one get a good set of paper maps. If I ever get another GPS it will be anything but Garmin.

I think you would be lucky to find a trail GPS that could do it for $100. Most of the good ones are double that.

The only thing if does well is say "recalculating". ....... dude, you missed your turn. Just say'n. If you can't follow directions or figure out how to get results out of a garmin........ good luck with maps. Also, take lots of bread crumbs with you when in the woods.

With trail GPS look for one that will do better under the tree canopy. Stinks to go off course all the time to get a signal.
