Default Flying with 2 metal detectors questions

So i have to get on a plane tuesday i will be taking 2 metal detectors . I plan on putting the rods in my checked bag and the contol boxes in my carry on with 2 coils. I have never done this before anyone have advice or see a problem? I will be flying in the states on US Airways. I dont plan on putiing them in a checked bag. So if anyone has done this recently, since flying rules seam to change all the time let me know.

Default Have a great trip!

Be sure to put your operating manual in the bag with the control boxes and coils. EXPECT to be hassled at the gate. NO BATTERIES! Take the batteries Out of the machine and put those in your CHECKED baggage. I always put my detectors in my checked baggage WITH the manual right on top, and I have never had a problem. Coming back from Phoenix, I brought a new Tesoro Lobo in the box as my carry on. I answered more questions about gold prospecting than I did security!

I leave the bateries in (or have them in the carry on) and treat them like any other electronic. Sometimes they ask you to turn stuff on like laptops and such. I do remove the batteries after that so they don't produce any EMI if they turn on by accident or start beeping. THAT would be embarrassing. I highly doubt they would cause any problems but better to be safe.
