Default My first Spanish silver

Spanish Coin Denominations:

1/2 REAL or One-Half "Bit" is equivalent to American HALF-DIME or 1/16 PESO also called a PICAYUNE, DIAMETER: 16.4 mm - 17,7 mm

Cool, my first Spanish silver in 6 years of detecting. Bout time. Unfortunately no date. Also found the brass hanger thing in same field. This was a "hunted out" field directly across the street from Antietam Battlefield at a private residence.

Certainly worth a LOT more than silver melt. What would a coin like that be worth?

Default Nice

Lucky Dawg! High on my wants list. Congrats. That brass holder , might be a piece to the sheath of a sword. Not sure what they call it. But it is a loop around the sheath that holds a sword. I guess thats how they would attach it. Hope fully, some others can give the correct name.

Not sure, I haven't looked any up yet
And Fred, that's what I though at first but it doesn't look like any of the typical ones I'm familiar with.

Oh, and after studying the coin with a magnifier, I believe we have a date--1777. WooHoo! My oldest coin by 10 years now.

nice half reale Bearbqd , because they are based on the spanish milled dollar the half reale is equal to 6 1/4 cents . your lucky as the are usually very worn , yours has some very nice detail . and your "hanger" is a gag loop for a horse harness.

Thanks copper head, thought it might be horse gear related. And Finder --run away!!! I'd Stay away from a hundred dollar machine. You MIGHT find some nails with that. Get a Garrett Ace 250 if you're looking to spend minimum funds and just get into the hobby. And yes, it's Spanish silver. Thanks for looking.
