I recently took my excal for a spin after using my DF for the last 2 months. Oh boy, I forgot how nice it is to not have to dig so much trash, and know what you got before you scoop it up. But my excal in disc mode is VERY chatty, and I don't know what to make of it. PP mode is just normal chatter so I have been searching in this mode, switching to disc before the dig. This was the main reason I let it sit in my closet for the past few months.
Is it just interference that is causing the chatter, or is my excal sick? __________________ |

Do you have a coil cover on the coil? If so, it could have sand in it.
Have you tried the Excal away from that beach to see if it might be interference? Have you tried backing the sensitivity down and did that make a difference? |

I have used it at multiple beaches, and at home. No difference. It seems to be the least chatty at auto sensitivity and I like the threshold below audible. I am just trying to see if people have an excal that when they change it out of PP it gets really chatty. __________________ |

Mine only gets a little chatty in the waves or undercurrent.... mostly from black sand movement. Do you run PP without a threshold as well? You might not be hearing the problem in PP as well. What happens when you adjust your disc does it disappear?

Mine will be chatty if I have the sensitivity to high, but it is worse in PP, just the opposite of yours. Have you backed the sensitivity down to less than half way? If it is still chatty in that setting, I would say there is a problem. Is it chatty with no movement of the coil? Or only when swinging?

Mine gets real chatty from RFI from security systems installed in homes and hotels.

My excal was screaming like a wounded squirrel with the help of the forum members I figured out I had delamination in my search coil. I marine epoxied it now in the water the threshold hums like a quire of angels.

What are All your settings? I would like to see what chatter is to you, can you video, phone or cam? Is it like the DF chatter?

My excal also "chatters" in disc. I am debating on whether to send it in to be checked out. There are random signals with no repeatability when rescanned. I don't know if it is the particular machine because my first excal (replaced with current unit when it died) was stable in disc on the same beaches. I hunt in pp which is better but my sensitivity is 1-4 max. I also hate digging hairpins which is why my dual field gets used sparingly right now. I have a bigger scoop on order and maybe will use the dual field more after I get it

Nohea thats pretty low sensitivity. I run my around 7 and yes i get an occasional non repeatable signal..... from lifting the coil at the end of the swing or undertow movement. These tones to me are obvious false tones.... because they are always the same tone. Im used to the ML SE and field hunting so this is quiet to me.
