Hey there Shark Hunter!! Hope you had some fun today in the water. Get yourself a 6 inch water scoop like the RTG I have. Smaller scoops may work but be sure it is quality or you will be buying another after you bend it. The photo shows my RTG 6 inch pro scoop. Check it out here. http://www.rtgscoops.com/rtgaluminumscoops.htm Since you have the Tiger you can block out IRON. Block the IRON and you will dig less junk.

Took some time before I dunked that new Mdinger tho , I didnt want to at first Im still not sure if Im ground balancing rite, I wish one of you guys lived near because im on my own here, I know for a absolute fact there is gold there because ive found it diving, I mean jewelry that is. and Im digging coins so Im at least getting part of the way rite. But finaly I dunked that tiger-s, and looked for any bubbles, pulled her up and checked her , and all was well, I need a scoop, I actually just used the pinpoiter after mdinger found it, then took a small dip net and took a bunch of the gravel and sand from under the pinponter and found some coins like that. If I had another man we would clean that place because Im part seal i go down after it , man i love it , I absolutely love diving and swimming I guess because i hold breath so long. anyway I have found my passion.

Ground balancing from the Tesoro Website:

How do I set up a manually adjusted ground balance detector?

Most manually adjusted machines are easy to set up, once you have practiced the skill necessary. Start with the machine in the All Metal mode with the Threshold hum set low and steady. Lift the coil straight off the ground and allow the threshold to retune. Do not swing the coil in an arc off the ground. Moving the coil in an arc causes the machine to read the ground in an uneven manner and will complicate the ground balance procedure. Once the threshold has retuned, push the coil down to about one inch above the ground. One of three things will happen. The threshold noise will get louder; it will get quieter; it will stay the same. When the threshold sound stays the same, the detector is telling you that it is no longer being affected by the mineralization in the ground and you are ready to hunt. If the sound gets louder, you will need to turn the ground balance knob counterclockwise. If the sound gets quieter, turn the ground balance knob clockwise. Repeat the above steps until you find the spot where the detector no longer reacts to the ground and the threshold hum stays the same on the way down.

If you have a manually adjusted machine, it is very important to make sure that you are very comfortable setting the ground balance. You can practice this in your backyard or anywhere you can find a small area with no metal targets in the ground. Spinning the knob one way and setting the balance, then spinning it the other and resetting the balance is a good way to practice this skill. If you practice this just five minutes a day, you will get very good at ground balancing.

Glad you are having fun!! I water hunt freshwater with a tiger shark also, I use a mask and sometimes dive for stuff and also use the vibra probe.

A scoop is a must though. From the sound of the terrain your digging in get a scoop that has a stainless steel reinforced tip. Gravel and rocks will eat up the aluminum and if you went full on stainless from top to bottom weight can be a factor. Thats what I run with anyway.

I know how you felt...first time I submerged my shark I crossed my fingers and hoped it didnt leak. It is a great detector and will find very small jewelry items and very deep items also. I also love how easy it is to pinpoint and the battery life. Weight was a issue for me at first till I tried out different mounting options.

I just recently purchased a sand shark from a forum member to try out in saltwater...I am starting to really like Tesoro. Hope you get lots of great finds!! Water detecting is great fun.

I like that stainless idea, What I have here is enormous granite rocks some are larger than houses. one is actually named 10 acre rock. anyway they are along the bank of the creek where people lay out and sun, these rocks slant towards water and anything dropped goes towards water and some is maybe 10 feet deep and clear as glass. but this rock has cracks and crevices that run down in water and over the decades they have filled with sand and small gravel and coins rings earrings and the are trapped in time, no flood or anything can remove them, they have to be located in water that over your head in places , sand removed targets pinpointed raked out of cracks and removed, people been swimming there for longer than my grandparents even remember. so we just like exploring it, the tiger S is amazing, It will definitely tune out the iron , And on all metal slow I dug a beer can today that was proly 15 inches deep. I found numerous coins. The vibra 580 is more than pin pointer too, I use it to dive and locate then mark and come back and scoop coins, it will pin p, about a inch deep, I think Tesoro Rocks!

You mentioned that your river had a rocky bottom. You are going to need a scoop that has a sharper point than sand type scoops we use for beach hunting. Look at the Diamond Scoop, Stealth Scoop or a Pro Scoop. If you are digging in a rocky bottom, I would also be looking at stainless steel an not an aluminum scoop.
