Default Coil cable is too long

Has anyone ever trimmed down the cable on a coil? I have 2 coils with the long cable and i wish they had the shorter one.

I have a CZ with 7 foot cables.
Here is what i do when swapping coils
Remove head phones and install other coil and after puting a few wraps at the coil
base , grab the shaft near the arm cuff and spin the detector
while useing lower hand to guide it up the shaft.
Almost like a spool of thread. HH Mike

Don't try to trim the cable unless you want to buy new coils. I promise that it's not as straight forward as it sounds, and will very likely ruin the coils.

Ever try adding a holder like is on say a vacuum cleaner? You know the two little things you wrap it back and forth on? Fast and easy.

Default dewcon has a great idea....

The cable holder like on a vacuum cleaner is a great idea. I have a lot of electronics and coil experience. I personally would cut the cable to the length I want, splice it back soldering the wires and using heat shrink tubing to cover the splice. If you don't have much experience, then the vacuum cleaner cord holder is a good idea.

Never known anyone wanting to shorten a coil cable! What machine is it?

As mentioned-the spin the pole method is by far the quickest way,I always do it that way
with all my coil changes.

Show me a picture of your current connector, and I'll tell you whether it can be cut down or not.

I believe that most long coil cords are made so that they can be used as a hip-mount. If you have never used one and your detector is capable of it, try it. You'll probably never go back to the regular style. Its lighter and you can usually do a wider swing and a whole lot less tiring.

Doesn't Tesoro Repair Parts sell replacement rods? I keep my two coils on separate rods with the cable held in place with wire ties. Just unscrew the cable and change the control box and upper stem in about 30 seconds.

If/when I ever get a second coil, this is my plan. Rods aren't that expensive.

I have extra rods for my coils, but it still is a pain to wrap the coil up all 8ft of it. I know this might not bother some people to do which is great for them, i posted on how to trim a coil and a member answered it today for me so thank you

I wrap this styrofoam tubing around the shaft. It makes a bigger diameter, therefore the cord has more area to go around. You can find it in hobby stores. like Hobby Lobby if you have one, If not I can send you some no charge. just PM me with info.

Any cable can be shortened with a soldering iron and electrical tape.

Hey! That works great! But I find you don't even need the electrical tape - just use the iron's cord to tie it all together!
