So, you want knee protection without spending alot of money?
Well, I have a solution for you! I have a friend who is a heat & air guy. He had on a pair of $80.00 khakis with pads in the knees. I said "Those are cool, I need some for my hobby of detecting." He said, "Save the money all these are is pants with pockets sewn on the inside of the legs that hold foam knee pads." So, you can buy these knee pads from most any hardware store for less than $10, company brand TommyCo. I use these and they are awesome! I have more expensive knee pads with plastic protectors and gel inside...still I wear the tommy co ones! With the pics, you get the idea... Hope this helps someone! __________________ Last edited by OZARKS; 11-29-2012 at 12:24 PM. |

Yes, knee pads are a must for land pirates and I am getting tired of the summer shorts and separated ones... that look in the Chicago parks bothers me a little
I'd rather the funny boys backed into the parking places sitting in their cars didn't know I have my knee pads on, looking forward to cooler weather and a little more manly man dress code. <--vid

Luckily that comes standard in Army uniforms, little velcro pockets just below the knee.
Also, check out 511 tactical pants, very rugged, and most come standard with the knee pads already built in. A little pricey ($50-$75) per pair, but I gurantee you they will outlast you ![]() Ive got at least three pairs for tactical shooting, but I never even thought of using them for MD. Thanks for the idea! __________________ |

I use knee pads with foam liners and hard plastic covers. I can kneel on rocks and it does not bother. For me, knee pads are a must and not optional. Not the most stylish in the world but I am way to old to worry about that anyways so it does not matter.

Great idea, but what I really need are new knees.

I have used a couple of different knee pads, but all of them are sort of hot and bug me after a while. I started just taking a plain, simple padded pot holder and laying it on the ground before putting my knee down. Works great!

I haven't been using any knee pads. I do usually carry a kneeler foam pad. I have a worn out pad of neoprene boots. I'm going to cut the tops out of them and make a pair of pull up knee pads. That should work well for wet and non-rocky environments.. Prolly not enough protection for rocky areas..
