Default No parking = winning daily number!

Wanted to grass hunt downtown today, but couldn't find a parking spot where I didn't have to walk for blocks, so I decided to head to the upper part of town and do some woods hunting, 'cause I haven't been in a while. Walked maybe 75 feet in, set my water bottle next to a tree, turned on, balanced, and started sweeping. 5 feet later, first target's a beavertail...3 feet from that hole I got another hit, definite coin this one, 5 inches down or so, jumpy i.d., but a coin for sure. One scoop of soft dirt later, a silvery shine in the pile appears, I figured a clean clad dime, nope, it's a 1928 Merc! Cha Ching, a winning daily number again! I've been on a silver streak recently, hopefully it won't stop soon. After that find of the day, not much else appeared, another beavertail, pocketwatch scraps, a couple whatzits, a button with a little gilt still on it, one clad dime and a mem. penny, then the last target for the day, a US Climax #12 headstamp...All in all a nice couple hours in the woods, beautiful weather, cool temps, no bugs, soft dirt....Might have to make a return visit tomorrow! Thanks for reading and looking, Happy Hunting!

Good find on the merc. Beavertails here look different than those you found, could you send me those two for my collection

Those are the original 1962/3 pulltabs, the ring style was used from '64-'75 or thereabouts. Go find your own..Headstamps, now that's all Turtlefoot's fault, at least that's my excuse for collecting them, seriously, the ones I find, most are pushing or are over 100 years old. For the small amount of space they take up, they're a cool collectible, and it's fun seeing how many different ones I can come up with. Amazing how they turn up almost everywhere I hunt, a relic from back when the right to possess and use firearms meant something in America.

Sweet silver Congrats. Yeah after seeing turtlefoots collection I started to save the headstamps also. I got my first one from Canada tonight but it must not have made it in my pouch what a bummer. Anyway thanks for sharing

Amazing how that Mercury dime stands out among those finds. All that time in the ground and it looks much better than any of the newer coins. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the comments! I didn't clean the dirt from the date on the Merc 'till I got home, wanted it to be a surprise, I figured it was in the '40's, because of the detail on it, but seeing the condition and 1928 date once I ran it under the faucet means it does coincide with the age of other items found at this spot at this depth, and it was dropped probably within a couple, 3 years of being minted. Must have sucked losing that during the depression, huh?
