This is applicable, but not limited to, the Minelab detectors that share the same chassis as the Safari.
During my post-beach hunt cleaning, I noticed that sand was getting into the locking mechanism for the upper and lower shafts. This was causing premature wear on the carbon fiber shaft and upper aluminum shaft when changing out the coils. I did the following mod to minimize the exposure to sand: The offending part ![]() Go to your local hardware store and buy an assortment of rubber o-rings. I got this pack from Checkers Auto Parts for $3.99 ![]() Find a size that's not too tight or loose ![]() Roll it on ![]() Snug it up ![]() Kiss the sand goodbye. In this picture, I didn't realize that the o-ring, wasn't pushed completely to the top, see the little gap? It WILL make a good seal if you push it up thoroughly.

That is a good tip. Share it with the factory and you never know. They may add it and reward you.
