Default Colonial Pewter Keg Tap

A Couple of forum members (on another forum) were coming out to my section of Connecticut and invited me for a cellar hole dig. They knew I lived in the northeast corner of CT but didn't know the town. Can you believe the cellar hole they wanted to hunt was a mile from my house? These guys are professionals. Their research told them of a probable colonial cellar hole in an area that I didn’t even know existed. The last map that even showed a road through that area was in 1833! After a jeep ride, then short hike we began to see stone walls. Then sure enough we came upon the most beautiful cellar hole you’d ever want to see. Central chimney, steps leading out the back, barn holes, pens, and well. To my still newbie eyes it was a spectacular site. Its remoteness and age led me to believe it would have only been lightly hunted. But as it turned out it too had been previously hunted, and hunted with a maniacal exactness that left few signals of any kind. One of the guys found two wonderful coppers (1785,1828) with his pinpointer!! ….and by wonderful I mean that supposedly only a few hundred are known to exist! The second guy only managed a button. I eked out a colonial keg tap and a spoon handle, both pewter. Funny I found the other end of a pewter spoon the day before at another site….go figure. I had great fun and learned a lot.
Edit-okay..here are the coins.

Yeah RI, I'm actually goin back there to finish up some pens and a possible barn site. The soil seems pretty easy on coins so it may be worth my while.

The boys spoke highly of you too Heavymetal.
