Default How not to metal detect....

Watch this video... He finds a junk target and then throws it back on the beach and makes a lame attempt to refill the hole...

Craig, as the camera starts to zoom out at the end, I pictured you running down the sand to tackle him.

I've seen the same thing while at the beach. It really doesn't take much effort to place the trash in a pouch.

How embarrassing...

Ok, who's going to be the first to make a comment like "pick up your trash buddy." on his comment thread?

Honestly Craig, that is a perfect example of now not to detect. Even his coil is 6 inches above the sand.

Equally amazing is that his coil discipline really stinks. Definitely doesn't have the patience to detect. My analogy would be going fishing and casting the lure in the trees. Then throwing a beer can in the water.

when i got my metal detector, my friend wanted to get one too. but he wanted something better than the 250 that i was getting. while he was trying to decide what to get i had started detecting with mine. he went with me one day and after five minutes of using mine, said that this hobby was not for him. i saved him a lot of money. i guess that is why so many wind up on ebay.

Limited on the amount of characters so I just asked why he was throwing junk finds back on the beach. Who wants to comment on his hole fillng and having the coil 4'' off the sand

Ok I donated my bit. Told him to hold his coil closer to the ground.

Who's going to get him for the holes? Craig you're nominated. 8)

My feeling is that filling a hole is common sense, and taking the trash is very environmently correct also. My Dad says that some people are book smart and common sense stupid. I agree.

He definitely needs to have a little more respect for our hobby, leaving holes and trash gives us all a bad-rap. I didn't realize there were so many metal detecting videos out there. I'll have to check them out.

I don't think this guy even knew he was being filmed, so leaving comments about his shortcomings isn't going to help him. (might help someone else) Whoever filmed and posted it is making fun of him. It's posted under comedy. Some folks find detecting humorous for some reason. I've seen other videos on youtube of the same ilk.

I just watched several of these videos. Most of the participants don't know what they're doing yet find nice stuff ?!?!?!?! I think much of it's contrived. My only hope is that those who see this will not follow this persons lead. People like him are why we get a bad rep.

Go over to youtube and invite the guy here. I doubt very seriously if he'll see it but you never know. At least SOMEONE will see it and come here.

Personally I think picking up trash is just common sense It shouldn't have to be taught to an adult.

Trash on a beach and a piece of a plow blade in a field are two different things in my mind. Maybe if it was a fishing weight or something like that it would be a valid comparison, but chances are it was tin or foil. We'll never know.

The guy is pretty cool, he responded to our comments with appreciation.

He may just hop on over to the forum to check it out.
