Default Cruise Vacation Hunts: Half Moon Cay & Grand Turk Isle

I just got back yesterday from a 7 day cruise. The stops were Half Moon Cay (a private island owned by Carnival), St. Thomas, San Juan, and Grand Turk. I metal detected at the 2 stops we did beach time which were Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk. The mainly water hunts were each just over 4 hours at each beach. Unfortunately, there was no old Spanish silver or yellow stuff to be had but I did manage some silver rings which I am happy about.

I was able to find lots of earrings - too bad they were all junk! The silver ring from Half Moon Cay is religious and has writing on it “1 Thes 4:3-4” which states in the KJV Bible for that passage "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor". It was heavily encrusted and I ran it through the tumbler overnight to clean up for the picture. It still was an enjoyable hunt with other trinkets and $3.44 in clad.

The second and last hunt was at Grand Turk with a little more clad $4.18 and 2 silvers; a ring and earring. Coincidentally, I have found that exact same ring with the writing on it before. I don’t remember what language it was or what is stated but I have found the same ring before.

Although I managed carrying and lugging my heavy stainless wooden-handled scoop around, it was cumbersome. I had wanted to disassemble the handle from the scoop so that it would just look like a stick but the fit was way too tight to remove it without a hammer. In the future, if I take my detecting equipment on a cruise again, I would sand the handle a bit to make dis-assembly much easier. The weather was perfect throughout and it was just really great to be able to detect than to just sit on the beach!

Nice job! Did the cruise people ever say anything to you or just wish you good luck?

The cruise people were cool with it. I had one young guy that works for Carnival that come up to me while I was detecting on the beach to chat on how he had a Minelab Explorer back home but wanted to get and Excal for the water so that he can have it with him on the cruise ship. I did have an an incident with one idiot in port security that I am going to post a separate thread about!

The abstinence ring is awesome. Those rings are supposed to symbolize your promise to God that you will abstain from sex until you are married.

I guess cruises and abstinence don't go well together!

Thumbs up I was just there!

Small world, I just got back from Grand Turk & Half Moon Cay, a week ago.

We were on Carnival Miricle. Which ship were you on?

Default Felix,

I hunted HM cay and Grand Turk a few years ago. I found a few things, but Half moon was way to rough to hold a position long enough to dig. It was target..... pinpoint..... swoosh for a couple hours. The sand was good. Grand Turk beaches will wear a scoop down to the nubs with all that coral under foot. You did much better than I. Gil

Or she chucked it and said scr3w this I am drinking a sex on the beach.

I found one exactly like it in the back of a park next to a picnic table. Tiny size too. A girl chunked it and had a picnic.
