Default beginners luck

So I'm down in Jacksonville, FL with my buddy. He's been interested in hunting and I was wanting to hit the beach anyway. I happened to have my Ace 250 with me as well so I thought it would be cool to get him hooked. So we woke up early this morning and head to the beach here. Pretty nice beach and wish I had more time to hunt it. Anyway after a brief tutorial on the machine and recovery techniques I turn him loose and grab the excal to start my hunt. No more than 5 seconds goes by and he has a target. I was laughing cause we were right by the trash cans so I figured it was a pull tab or bottle cap but he found a zincoln on his first target. I tell him good job and keep going. 30 seconds later he's like I have another one. I thought for sure he'd pop his pulltab cherry on this one. So he starts digging and my trained eyes see it way before he does but I just let out a "sonofab****!" That lucky bastard found a ring on his second target! Turns out to be silver and has some nice weight to it. It's kinda small though so it's either a pinky ring or a womans ring. Anyway needless to say he's hooked. I told him not to get all spoiled cause that doesn't happen every time, lol. Meanwhile my jewelry drought for the year continues as I only raked in about 90 cents in clad.

I did the same thing. Found a Platinum ring the third day I had my Excal II back in Dec when I started metal detecting. I haven't found any Platinum since. I knew it was beginners luck but I sure had high hopes the luck would continue.

I think being lucky and having a good first hunt is what makes or breaks allot of hunters
