Could you be more specific?
When you say "where it plugs in" do you mean to the machine or from lead connector to phones? What make of phones are they? __________________ |

Do you know how to solder (and do you have the tools)?
Do you know how to strip small wires? Do you understand how headphones work, and the difference between mono and stereo? If you answer yes to all the above, then repair is a piece of cake. Otherwise, you'll have to find someone who can. Or go buy some new headphones.

quite often the break in the wire will be right where it goes into the plug and chances are that you'll need a new plug (one with solder lugs on it). come back about an inch or so from your original plug, chop the wire, strip the ends and solder it to the new plug. the wires are pretty fine, so abut all i can say is good luck with it. you're probably better off just tossing them and buying a whole new set of phones. and it never hurts to put a wrap or 2 of elec tape around where the wire comes out of the plug, just for a little bit of added protection.

I had my Koss headphones break right at the plug - one of the wires broke. I bought a new plug at Radio Shack, took the old plug apart, paying attention to which wire went on which contact (three wires), then soldered on the new plug, using a 25 watt solder iron, and solder for electrical connections (rosin core?). Put it back together and it worked! It continues to work fine. I had only a little experience soldering electrical connections. I plan to buy a better set of headphones (with right angle plug), but these will do until then.

The molded plug didn't last no time. I replace it with a radio-shack solder type plug. Then wires broke at the ear pieces. The wire just couldn't take the flexing. I replaced the wire with a non-coiling, heavier insulated, larger gauge wire. I reinforced the connections with shrink wrap and good quality silicone. I also made it a little longer, so I have more freedom when digging.
