Default Detecting Opportunities Sparse, But I'm Still Here (Kinda Long)

Hi all,

I haven't posted for awhile because my time is pretty tight. I haven't got out in three weeks because of a few reasons. One, I'm writing my thesis this summer so I can get my master's degree by December. However, I'm also working very hard on losing a good amount of weight. I'm walking four and a half miles a day and working as well. Its kinda gotten to the point where I'm 25 and want to get my body in shape before it gets more difficult with age. I'm down twelve pounds in three and a half weeks and I think I can lose another thirty by the time that the summer is up and I'm back in school for my last two classes. Generally I'm just pretty tired after working out and metal detecting is just one of those things that I'm missing out on. Unfortunately, I think it is a necessary concession. I'll still be getting out. There's no doubt about that. But as far as posting as much as I do and what not and making comments on everyone's fantastic finds, it's probably going to tail off. I just don't want people to think i'm another metal detecting drop out! Great hobby, great people, and great times is what this hobby represents to me. It's just that I need to put first things first. I hope everyone has a fantastic summer and many great finds. I'll be popping in from time to time to comment on all the good dubloons and silver you guys and gals are pulling out of the ground. Until then, keep the coil to the soil.

Sincerely,

T.R. Mook

I hear ya, man!! I''ve lost 54 pounds in the last two years and am at my same weight I was when I was 40 years younger. I changed what I ate, not really how much I ate. I had gotten to be a fast food freak, and now stick to fruit, veggies and fish. I was even able to stop taking my high blood pressure meds after thirty years!!!

Keep up the with the diet!!!

Dusty

My masters is in history. My undergrad is in Education and I'm certified in PA but don't really want to teach. Kinda soured on it. However, I'm applying at several schools currently for my Phd. in Museum Studies and Historical Preservation. Thanks for the props everyone. I weighed 215 when I left or college and was up to 290. The thing is I don't really look it at all. I played sports and I'm a pretty dense big guy, but I can feel it. That's the difference. I feel it in my own body especially in my joints and what not and I'm just looking forward to getting back down to 220 even. And from there we'll see how it goes. Everyone take care and many good finds to everybody this summer!

T.R.

Good luck on the thesis. Can we have a clue as to your paper's subject?

The working title of my paper is Frederick Jackson Turner, The Frontier Thesis, and the Education of a Nation. I claim that after Turner's theory was proposed the United States attempted to educate the public on their heritage via objects such as coins and stamps. This is also when the Columbian Exposition was opened and thus we began to become nostalgic for things that were only several years in the past. In fact, As late as the 1880s, in theory, the government was still waging the Indian Wars in remote outposts in the west. Interesting stuff if you adhere to the Frontier Thesis. Look it up on Wikipedia if you want a brief overview. Or, if you really want to get into some good reading, you can check out Turner's work directly. He published much of his work in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
