No. You'd need to factor in mintage, remelts,...

SLQ's....elusive, aren't they.

Here's another possible factor - SLQ's were in circulation during the depression when people had less money, or were more careful with their money. Also they were in circulation during prohibition - fewer drunks losing their money. Of course, some say there were just as many drunks during prohibition.

It is a coin that has a picture of Liberty on the front as portrayed by a man named Barber who made the engraving. thus it is a Barber coin.

In six years of detecting I have found 6 SLQ's to 1 Barber Quarter. The history of my town shows the population peaked in the 1920's. I'm sure there are many factors that affect this. HH

It is strange how certain areas are pulling up certain coins. My common coin that I find are Buffalo Nickels, next would be Wheat cents. These I am finding quite a bit, however I have found the odd Barber dime and Indian Head penny but in general it is not as common. Do you think it is possible to take a poll of the two most common coins and create a map just to see what the logistics are? I think that woul be really interesting.

It would be an interesting poll. I'll put one together later.

The most common old coins I've have found, or seen found here in RI are wheats, as expected, Indian Head pennys and Mercury dimes. I've yet to find a Barber or SLQ.

Then within the SLQs, there are two varieties. The original or naked breast Liberty
and the chain mail Liberty. The original was the naked breast one. Modesty set in and the Mint covered up lady Liberty with chain mail.

Hmm, couldn't find a decent way of putting the poll together...
