Default Tryed it..loved it....want it!

Hi all..I have to say, this forum is great. The info i got from here are endless!

Yesterday, a friend of mine from Athens (i live in a village) came to visit me and he had a Teknetics Mark III (that he borrowed from another guy) with him..
He knew that the mountens near my village were hiding boxes full of gold coins from the war in 1940...
He told me lets play and go hunting...i like adventures so we went...
We search for about 5h and came up with a horse shoe and two bullets from the year 1943..Of course we searhed blindly, no maps or info for gold..
Thats no treasure but i got exited whith that hobby and i have desided to buy my own metal detector...
I read here that the ace 250 is very good for beginners and doesnt cost to much (280 euro in Greece) but it cant go that deep...
I dont want to pay too much money coz im just starting but i need to be able to search about 3 feet deep and also be able to search 5" deep on salt sand for coins or rings...

I know ill get help from here...
Thnx in advance...

PS Sorry for my bad English...

Hi subneo and welcome to the forum!
Ace will get you started and its a good detector for the price. You should find coins and jewelry at 5 inches no problem. Not sure it will go 3feet though, unless it's a box of gold coins

Also I have heard that Greece is off limits for detecting, I could be wrong here though.

PS your English is great my friend!

Thank you for the quick reply
"off limits"? You mean its against the law? If that is what you say, no, you can detect, but you cant dig without permission...and at the beach its all ok coz the diging there will be about 5-6".. I mean, chilldren dig 5-6" deep holes at summertime to play...
Now about the ace 250...You say that at 3 feet it will not detect coins but will detect a big box of golden coins? Well...that is what i want! Up on the mountains, if there are any boxes with gold coins as they say, they will be underground..Soldiers in the late 40s dig holes and put the boxes in so they can dig them out after tha war..They had to be fast so nobody see them so they dig max 1.5-3 feet...

Conclusion : If the ace 250 can detect coins at 5-6 inches and also detect large boxes at 3 feet, then that's the best machine for me!

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have some adventures ahead of you...have you checked into one of those 2-box machines by garrett? Might be something to think about.

Well, i am not ready to spend much money right now for a detector. I like the idea of hunting for little treasures in my back yard or maybe on the beach. If i find old coins i will be happy, if i find a ring i will be exited.
I might go on the hills sometimes and hunt for the BIG treasures but this is not my main goal so if the ace 250 is capable of finding big targets 3 feet deep it will be ideal for me!
I am 99% ready to go for the ace and i just want to know if it can do 3 feet. If it can't, i will not bother to go on the hills, after all, i like hunting like a hobby, im not trying to make a fortune out of it..

PS I learn to speak and spell English in a year and of course, practice makes better...

Welcome . Sorry to say but the Ace is NOT capable of finding targets in the ground at 3 feet. A two box detector would have to be the one.

So it will not detect it even if it's about 10"x10" box?
Oh well.. i guess ill stay away from those hills till i get to be an expert with the ace..
Btw, to be able to detect at that depth (3 feet) i must go to high end detectors that costs 500-2000 euros?
What is the max depth for the ace 250 if the target is big?
Last question (i hope ) Does size matters? Ehh... you know what i mean...

Generally the width of the coil is the same as the depth(on coin sized objects). I can detect a large aluminum driveway culvert at about 4 to 5 foot deep. A 10 by 10 inch cashe you might be able to get at 18-20 inches, but not much more.

You will not get 18 to 20" on an Ave250 even with the larger coil. Sorry but it has its limits no matter what size target. Larger targets will be found deeper than single coins but not at 20" in the ground.

The thing is that MD cost to much in Greece. You sell the ace 250 for $212, that's less that 200 euro. In Greece it costs 280 euro! That's about $335! I still think ill get that ace and use it till i get really good at MDing, Then, i might get a DFX or something...

Btw.. I search the net for info about MDing laws in Greece but i can't find nothing
I want to know if i must get permission (and from where) for hunting at a school, park or even in my own yard..
Any info on that will be very helpfull for me...

Sorry Subneo...I was basing my estimate on my detector by the depth I have found aluminum soda cans. Never used an Ace 250 before. Tony should know.

I got my ace 250 last night and started some air tests today...
Of course im trying to learn the sounds coz they are not the same as the video (that came in a dvd in the box) Ill talk about that in some days.. after i learn a bit better...

Now for the depth.. With max sens. it detected a one euro coin at about 10" but the screen shows 6"..
I tryed a large target, about 10by10 inches and at max sens. it detected it at about 3 feet!! If i swing faster it detects a bit deeper but with normal swining its 3 feet!
I know that if it is underground, the depth will degreese but im going to find out for sure in some days i guess...

So far, im happy with my MD.. ill get more happy when ill find my first coin...

Congrats subneo on the new detector, good luck and hope you find plenty of treasure. Just got a new detector at Christmas and still learning the machine. I guess you could say alot of it is still "Greek" to me.
