My 300 is now 2 months young. Going into this purchase with the different coil I really knew what to expect. Whites even said it, the 300 coil in not for park hunting. The 300 coil is best used in the woods where trash is at a minimum and at best hits a shotgun shell every 15-20 feet.
Having read the latest treasure magazine and seeing the advertisements I feel what WHITES did to the DFX was in response to the overwhelming reviews of the ETRAC. However looking at the advertisements ETRAC is comparing themselves to WHITES, that’s really the only thing that says try an ETRAC but keep my 300. Well I did my best to prove WHITES and MYSELF wrong, the 300 is ok in the parks if the discrimination is used for someone just starting out perhaps it would depend on the person. I have a gold program, a silver program, an all around program and one spare. Gold program is set up so I can concentrate on Gold; the Silver is set up so I can concentrate on Silver. The all around is for less trashy sites and seems to do well with both metals but again with minimum trash. Clad with the 300 is clad if its there (its there) no questions asked. Having used the older DFX my biggest complaint's with the 300 is the pinpointing. Any target 2” or less is normally on the surface, I just pull my pin pointer out check the top soil and there it is. A 3”/ 4” target could be anywhere. 5” and deeper the machine really gives me a good look. In truth thats really what the 300 coil is made for perhaps I am just spoiled. For what ever reason if I flip a plug and run my coil over the hole I get no reading, even on the most obvious targets. I hit it the first time or I’m digging even using the trigger, I get no reading after I cut the plug... This leads me to the WHITES pin pointer, its junk I have not used the pro pointer but its on my wish list. I don’t like the extra weight of the bigger coil and its clumsy but I am getting used to it. Get into a wet, fresh cut grass situation the coil gets very heavy very fast. I really don’t know why WHITES changed the DFX but again if I could guess it’s the ETRAC. Now I don’t know anything about the ETRAC but I like what I have read. Would I go with an ETRAC and give up my DFX, I don’t see any reason too. Over the last two months all things considered the 300 has worked for me. I mentioned my wish list, get another V3I, I would also like to get an ETRAC just for the sake of trying a new detector and of course the EXCALBUR/WHITES PI for beach and water. I did mention the PRO POINTER and I am looking more and more into the AT PRO for an overall back up and for a spare for friends. Those are the only issues I have found with the 300... To solve my issues with the 300 just put a 9” coil on it and its as good as GOLD… __________________ |

Jamie, for your style of hunting. I think the AT Pro would be a great choice for you. Light in weight and capable of deep targets. I've read a lot of good things about that machine.
