Finally got out today with my 1280x. After 2hrs found a dozen beer caps, and couple nails, a quarter and 2 pennies. Water is still plenty cold but looking forward to this summer.
Anyone who uses or has used a 1280 have any advice for me on using it in freshwater I would love to hear it. Where do you usually set your discriminate and sensitivity. Thanks |

Discrim. at 1 or 2 should give bottlecaps a "clipped" sound but should still allow you to find gold rings. Sensitivity as high as possible. Good luck! HH!

I agree with "Compass".
I have been using the 1280-X since fisher first introduced them. I run the Discrimination as low as I can, usually 1 1/2 to 2, sensitivity as high as I can. Since I hunt somewhat brackish water that is usually around 7 - 8. Bottle caps and nails will give a crackling / popping signal. After digging a few of the junk target I will fine tune the machine for that area. Got to be carefully though, a broken necklace will give a similar response, but with some practice you'll learn to tell the difference. When in doubt "DIG"! The 1280-X will find some deep gold if you listen for those faint whispers. Jack in SE Virginia __________________ |
