Default Need Help

Hey all,

My dad is just starting in the MD hobby here is So Cal. He wanted to purchase a Titan 100 XD, but was told that, due to our highly mineralized soil, the Titan is a poor choice.

I recommended an Ace 250 for his budget - up to $250.
Is this the right machine for a mineralized environment? Is there a better machine for around the same price?

Perspiring minds would like to know.

Thanks - RD

The Ace 250 is a VERY GOOD entry level machine for the money. It offers a lot of features found in more expensive machines, and performs very well. It is a great coin hunter. The Whites Prism II or III I am told would be the other ones to look at in the same price range. The Ace 250 for beach use is fine in the DRY sand, but will false in the wet or in the water due to the salt / mineral content. Also check out some of the Tesoro models. STAY AWAY from any of the Chinese off brands, as you will be wasting your money and will be greatly disappointed in performance.

The whole Earth is mineralized. Some areas are worse then others. Low end detectors perform on a limited basis. Some are better than others. The Ace 250 is an excellent detector to start with However, it has preset ground balance and may not work well in higher mineralized ground and you may need to adjust it. Still , it would be in the budget and it's where I would go to start.
Let me know if you need any more help.

Tony, Am I reading your post right? It is possible to re-adjust the factory set ground balance on an ACE 250?

I am not sure about the Ace250 but some detectors with preset ground balance you can change it. But you have to know what potentiometer to turn (adjust) and be very careful because they can be very delicate and break. Steve.

No. The ace has preset GB that is not adjustable. The fact is if you get it you may want or need the ability to adjust it and it isn't there for you on this model.
