Hello...I've been looking over our county auditors web site and there are several homes, some dating to the early 1900's that went into foreclosure and are now the property of the Dept of Housing (Federal). Some of these have been vacant for 2 years or more. Would you consider it safe to detect there, since technically it is publicly owned land?

Unless there are signs posted, I kinda doubt the FBI is going to come knocking on your door in the middle of the night.......

Its not technically the same as public property , but atleast there should be no homeowners around to be upset. I detect these types of places but still keep in mind that its one of those "iffy" gray areas where it should be ok as long as you are leaving no trace of being there but there is always the possibility of someone having an issue with it , so hunting them at odd hours and trying not to attract attention to yourself is advised. Its one of those situations where " IF " someone were to take issue with it then its easier to ask forgiveness because the official response will probably be a misguided and misinformed NO if you try to ask.
