Default Just curious..

How many of the people on this website are actually coin collectors as well as metal detectorists? Just curious. I do both myself.

Though I have an inordinate amount of foreign coins and a nice variety of US coins from the 1800s and newer... I don't really see myself as a collector. I don't look for coins to add to my collection in the slightest, just happy with my little stash that sits in a lockbox.

I've got about 450 coins in my collection which represent the most valuable coins I've found since I started MDing in '83. They are going to my kids after I'm gone. The rest I've sold on Fee Bay or traded.

I started at 8 as a coin and stamp collector, gave them both away to relatives when I turned 12 and started collecting minerals and crystals. Now have a house full of them for sale! LOL About 5 years ago, I got interested in mint errors and started collecting them, have most of the major types and a lockbox full of them now.

Just started MDing and have not found anything particularly valuable ....YET! Will sell any high dollar coins I find to add to my cash value total recovered tho. Am hoarding my clad finds until the end of the year for a grand total and then off the bank they go!

Oh, I do like ancient Roman coins too, but only those attributed to Emperors as I can't read latin to make that determination myself. I have about 25 of them I have acquired when I had spare money on feebay! LOL

As a kid I always put wheats and older coins aside for some unknown reason, not to collect for the value but because I thought they were cool. I still have all of them to this day yet I still dont consider myself a collector. I am not searching out specific coins, but if I find anything cool it goes to my stash. So my answer is yes I collect coins, but I am not a coin collector

xxnshcxx I think I'm the same as you. I used have little books that I put them in.. but I don't ever search for dates. I just remember what ones I'm missing, but I don't have a hardcore goal of finding them. I set aside all the old coins I find.. I particularly like to collect old silver dollars (a few) and wheat pennies (several pounds) I also have a massive collection of the "drummer boy" bicentennial quarters.

I have lots of foreign coins but I don't really consider myself a collector even though I like collecting coins.
