Default My first pair of high-end detector headphones

After 30+ of detecting, and using off the shelf headphones, I bought my first set of High-End headphones. I've always been happy using whatever I got my hands on be it those Koss UR-30's or some Walmart special. I just never could justify spending $100 when I could get a pair for $30. Now I find this a bit ironic considering I'm a big believer in you get what you pay for when buying a detector, but am happy with a cheap set of headphones. Especially since I'm a musician who is particular about sound.

Well I found myself in need of a set of headphones for my E-Trac, and having found I had been missing out not owning a pinpointer for 30+years, I decided I'd take a look at some of the better known headphones. I found a guy selling a used set of Killer B's(standard) for $65 so I bought them.

Got them Monday and my first impression is WOW! Just putting them on I can hear the difference. Much better sound dampening than any I've wore before. It was like silence when I put them on. That alone told me I'd be hearing those faint signals much better. I haven't tried them in the field yet, it's been raining, but I am excited to put them to the field test in the city park.

I'll give a full review once I get some field use in. I just thought I'd toss out this first impression for the other people like me that just doesn't see a need for high-end headphones.

.............that is a common phenomenon, one will never miss the quality of anything until one trys the product first! Most likely you will never buy inexpensive head phones again. Enjoy the sounds!. HH and be well.......Jan

Going from Garrett Master sound headphones to Killer B Wasps was like night and day. Congrats on your new phones

I've had 2 pairs of Killer B's, my newest pair is the Wasps and paired with the Etrac they are incredible. Nice snug fit and I can hear a whisper. I have no doubt they netted me a Merc last week...I wouldn't have heard it with the cheapies.

I went from a variety of cheap ones to Whites K/W pro's which where OK for the time until they broke but then I switched to Gray Ghost and never looked back. The fit and feel 10000x's better, they look better, they sound better, and they last forever. I use to go through 2 or 3 pair of cheap detector phones like Calrad's each year hunting in the woods and cellar holes. I wish I had gotten Gray ghost from the start it would have saved me a fortune. Some people can't understand why we spend 80-120 or so on headphones but in the long run it's well worth it considering most have lifetimes warranty's and from what I've seen most people never need to use the warranty.

That's cool, you really won't believe the difference. I'm sure they have a limiter also on them. Turn the sound on the detector all the way up and let the limiter do the work for you. The Koss UR30's should have deafened you with the ETrac. lol................ You are in store for a lot more target music that's for sure!

Just be extra careful now of your surroundings since there's probably less ambient noise coming in.
