So being brand new to the hobby and not having much time to head out, the only places I've searched are my house, my parent's house and my grandparent's house. I've found 4 pennies no older than 1973. But some of the other things I've found have been interesting and funny.
In the image below, you'll see a girl's play watch (my sister's from long ago) and a part of a chain from a swing set. I couldn't tell you if it was one from something my parent's owned from long ago or if it is older than that (we've had the house for almost 28 years, the house is 36 years old.) Here's a pic (sorry for the bad quality, Blackberry's don't have good lenses on their phones):

If you're finding trash, you're doing something right, just keep looking and the better stuff will come, that's basically what I've learned here this last year or so and it's true, so keep on looking and posting, it's all interesting!
By-the-way, I use a Blackberry too and one of the things you can do for the camera is to get some used, broken throw-away film cameras from the local drugstore or Walmart camera department and take them apart, BEING CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE FLASH CAPACITOR, and pop the battery out first and then the lenses out. These lens are usually small dome shaped clear plastic, with a small flange on the outside of the bottom, which you can postion over your BBs camera for a close-up lens, using tape to hold it in place. You'll likely have to break off extra bits of plastic, like the viewfinder that's sometime part of the lens assembly but that's no big deal. I've tried several disposable camera types and it is hit and miss, though I've had good luck with a lens taped on backwards, convex side to the camera lens. Keep the ones that work clean and away in a little pill bottle or match box until you need to make a picture. Hope this helps. Eli __________________ |

I should have mentioned in the above that taking the battery out will not prevent a shock from the flash capacitor so be careful not to touch any bare metal on the board, especially if you wear rings.

Yes, fortunately, it is not too hard to quick drain a cap. Just don't hold the crossing wire in bare hands.

Welcome to the hobby, you have a nice start for your nail collection! Seriously, at least you're finding stuff, what you can do is hammer the yards by scanning in a horizontal, vertical and diagonal patterns. It's good practice for when you go and do parks and schools and hopefully older houses where the owners give you their permission. Good luck and happy hunting!!
