Default First Gold in the cold surf

Well, I finally decided to gear up for the cold weather here in Connecticut. I now have the heaviest neoprene waders I could get, gauntlet gloves and all gortex overwear. I hit the surf with my White's PI (only the second time out with it) and managed to get this gold ring after about an hour and a half. I was getting mostly bottlecaps and pulltabs. I headed out into chest deep water but the waves were splashing up to my shoulders. I moved into waist deep water and at dead low tide I got a hit on this ring. It was in about three feet deep water and was buried about a foot or so down. It's 10k gold with what looks like a good sized Aquamarine stone. It's in pretty good shape, but unfortunately the stone is cracked. Either way I'm ecstatic! After reading about everybody's success I finally convinced myself the cold days in the wet surf are worth it. I still have a lot to learn and look pretty clumsy out there trying to balance my detector, scoop and dodge the waves. A few joggers looked at me like I was crazy, but I guess I have the last laugh. I hope I don't sound too exited and yes I am a newbie; but, I felt like sharing my good luck story.

Beach Hunter, I picked up a DFX last year in the hopes I would use that one and my wife the Classic III (on the beach). As you most likely noticed on my signature, I have several detectors. I have two boys ages 5 & 7, so I figured I have enough detectors for the family to use together. I'm interested in your comments on the Classic III; using the black sand switch did you have good luck at all in the wet sand? Or, did you use it mostly in the dry sand?

Default I used the Classic III in wet sand

with good results with out the black sand switch on...I used the black sand switch to go over areas that I had hunted with disc turned way down to hit any deeper stuff that may have been missed. if its a trasy area this is a little hard black sand swtch on will give you hits on tiny items.
