Default I want those deeper coins

I have a great place to hunt, and have been doing so for over a year with my Quick Draw II. It has found lots of stuff ...about 40 IH's, dozens of mercs and barbers, and around 175 wheaties (mostly teens,20's, and 30's) I just recently found a GeorgeII halfpence with it. The QDII has done very well.
Most of these coins have been less than 5 inches deep. Now I'm interested in those deeper coins. I feel sure they are there. I believe I need to upgade to another machine. One that will find them.
Any suggestions? I am limited to what I can spend. Something like $5-600 is all. The area isnt what I would consider trashy although some other places I like to hunt are. I'm in a limestone farming valley in central Pa. and there is a few old Iron ore mines around. The ore really hasnt bothered the QDII.
I would even consider an Ace 250 if I thought it would get me deeper.
Thanx for your thoughts....WZ

There should be many detectors in the 500 - 600 dollar price range that would be a upgrade to the Quick Draw II. Do you want one with the bells & whistles (target id,depth reading, etc.) or a plain jane like my Tesoro Cibola without target id,etc. but will get "er" done! Steve.

If you want deep, $500-$600, Tesoro Tejon.

I'll suggest the Whites M6 for its superior coinshooting ablities since you seem to find a lot of coins. BTW... Some nice finds there 8). The Tejon is also a good detector for coins but better for relics. If you need any help deciding or would like to make a purchase let me know. I'm here for you.

Thanx for the suggestions. I took a look at the Tesoro Tejon and the Whites M6. There should be more contenders for me to look at. Any more suggestions anyone?

Thanx...WZ

In the price range you mentioned there is also the Garrett 1350 and Fisher ID Excel just below. Any of these would be good detectors but the M6 is the best of the bunch here for coinshooting and the Tejon for relic hunting.

All that silver??? Wow! Can me and Rusty have that spot?

If you're finding them with the QDII (my first md too) at less than 5" deep, a better detector will help you sniff out more for sure. Any of the ones mentioned would be just fine (and a nice upgrade from the BH). However, don't be surprised to find more coins at around the same depth

Use the one you plan to buy first...the quick draw II is a surprisingly deep-seeking detector, I am in the same delima, I have the Landstar (for 12 years) and want to add another detector to my arsenal, but haven't been able to decide on which one. The m6 and mxt spark my interest, but I wish I could try one first. I know that I prefer the Landstar to my buddies XLT for depth, quick recovery, and pinpointing and the autonotch is a killer coin finder. I would be very interested in knowing what you decide and how it compares. Good luck and happy hunting.

The QDII has been a very good detector. Its paid for itself a couple times in the 15 months that i have used it. Cant say the next one will do the same.
I'm not in a hurry to make a decision.... could be summer till I get one. In the mean time, once the weather breaks, I will try my 10" coil a little more. I only have used it a couple hours this summer and I'm not sure it was much different than the stock 8". I'll have to try it a few times and give it a chance to help.
I just feel like my QDII has found most everything that it's going to, at my honey hole. Nothing has come from much deeper than 4-5". Since the area had been used for picnics and fairs from about 1875 until 1975...I feel deeper coins may be there. Most of the places I have been hunting date back as far as the 1780's . Some of the barbers I found were maybe as shallow as 2-3". So who knows where the coins are?!?!?!?Not me...not yet
So.... I do want to get a good "deep coinshooter", just not sure what and when

Here is something to consider...Hunt the site after a good ground-soaker. Soggy ground will add a good 3 inches to your depth. If you find coins where you have previously hunted, then I would suspect your missing deeper ones...but I would bet that you have recovered them already.

If you want deep coins then you need a machine capable of finding them , I think the depth of the sovereign is super , for the money you mention you can get a sovereign and do real well ......

If you want to go REALLY deep on small targets, go with a PI machine, like the White's Surf PI PRO. You'll get 10" plus in some soils, but you'll sacrifice discrimination for depth and get some trash along with your coins.

Also, I'm not too familiar with your QDII, but try using it in all metal mode, if that feature is available, then switch to discriminate once you've pinpointed the target. You might get a couple extra inches in depth using that method.

I would use all Metal mode with your quick draw, and make sure you dig out trash signals or move your coil in different directions when you get one to see if there is anything else around. Even though i don't think your machine has an audible threshold like my pioneer 202 doesn't, it has a threshold and if there is junk to close to the coins, it won't even sound off, cause the junk will null out the threshold and you won't hear any thing else that's there.

The all-metal mode doesn't null on junk...it sounds off on everything. The modulation in these units (in disc. mode) sounds off on the faintest of targets (as long as the disc. is all the way down). I regularly get beeps on targets in 2 or 3 directions (not on every pass) and I will put it in all-metal to see how big the target is and many times I find the target very deep and barely detectable...I love these targets So I am very confident that it is finding everything up to 8-9 inches or deeper. I get solid repeatable beeps on dimes 7-8 inches. I have a PI and it finds things deeper, but not much...maybe 2-4 inches. I have used it in some of the highly productive spots on the base I hunt and dug lots of rusted metal, but no coins. The Landstar is very good at weeding through the iron and finding deep coins.

I know it doesn't null in all metal mode...I was trying to say to use all metal mode to avoid the nulling out on junk targets which in turn can mask the good targets.

Default Ill tell you what...

If you need depth and that is your price range give the Minelab Xterra 50 some serious thought. I am a Fisher fanatic but those xterras show some serious depth using the stock 9" coil. I have run the Fisher for years with the 10.5" coils so I know what they will do and these new ML's will keep up. So coming from a diehard Fisher user thats a big compliment.
