Default Goldmaster V Sat vs Tesoro Compadre gold hunting questions???

Hi i was wandering if someone could give their opinoin on something i have to ask.. i'am looking at buying either a White's GoldMaster Vsat for around 150 or a Tesoro Compadre for 160... I live in Washington state and i'm new to this nugget hunting stuff. I will be nugget hunting Mostly on river banks and beds for SMALL nuggets and i might head east to do some land hunting to.... So i need to know what the better detector is for the price and my situation.

Thanks

Steve

Good question Steve. I'm afraid there is so much black sand and hot rocks here in Washington rivers it may drive those detectors wild. Even my X-Terra 70 goes nuts occasionally on my gold claims here in Washington. I'm not familiar enough with the detectors you mentioned to know for sure though. Maybe someone else can give you better info regarding these two detectors.
You also might get a hold of the Pilchuck Treasure Hunting Club in Everett (which is fairly close to you) and see if you can get together with someone there who hunts the local streams for gold. Might be able to get some good insight regarding types of detectors that will work in these streams. Good luck.

That's good advice.

I have the Tesoro and love this maching. Set you setting just below 5 cents to find the gold. Good thing about Tesoro is the LIFETIME WARRANTY on the machine. Can't be beat.

You will need the Vsat for nugget hunting. The tesoro is not a gold machine, Although it may find coins and jewelry it will not find gold nuggets.

Yes..I owned and used both the Vsat and GMII and both found gold nuggets as small and smaller then a grain of rice. The coil is waterproof but I would put a bead of silicone or E6000 around the seam just to be sure. I never used mine in or around water, If you have water around you are better off running a sluice box and panning rather then using a metal detector.
Having a Vsat in your arsenal is a good thing for dry land hunting, checking the banks of the river/steams, I personally wouldn't use it in the water.
It is a good machine and 150 is a good deal.

The V-Sat will pick up the smallest pieces as it is the highest frequency of the three at 50 kHz and the other 2 are at 19 kHZ. The V-Sat is also the newest in technology as it came into production in the early to mid 90's and the other 2 came out in the late 80's.
The Garrett has the most versitility as it has a full range of discrimination for coin/relic hunting purposes while the other 2 have very little discrimination ablilites as they were designed specificly for nugget hunting.

The Compadre was not designed for nugget hunting as it's ground balance is factory set were as the other 3 have adjustable ground balance.

Default New to this site

I live out in Darrington, WA and was looking up metal detecting and came across this site. I am extremely new to metal detecting and am kinda embarrassed to say I was only able to afford a Bounty Hunter Elite 2000 for my first metal detector. Haven't gotten to use it much, but really want to get started and hopefully be able to afford a better one soon. Anyone come all the way out to the Darrington area for hunting metals, relics, etc.?
