Ok, I found a really good site. It has been giving up wheaties everyday. I found 3 silver dimes and a nice WWI collar pin. All my finds have been about 6-7 inches down. A couple 8 inch wheaties. I am happy with my finds so far. My question is this...do you think that there is bigger silver deeper? The soil is wet and about 5 inches down there is fill in gravel that has been there for a long time. The area is next to a lake and I was told they filled it in with gravel. I am using a whites xlt. I have a custom silver program, but it has not found any deep silver. Maybe there is none, but I am sure this place has not been hunted before, just by the number of great wheat signals I am finding. Ok, sorry for the book, any suggestions would be appreciated.

hard one.
the wheaties could have been in the fill the whole time (discovered that one the dumb way!) and the region below was less than barren! Or you might have a case of silver at depth. 50/50! are you reshooting your holes with the XLT before refilling them, might be one way to gain the extra depth you are seeking. maybe around larger tree bases????? __________________ |

Difficult to say without knowing the history of the site. Check with older folk around there and see if you can piece together the history of the site... could answer all your questions. RickO

Its possible , anythings possible. But technically , larger coins/targets can be detected at greater depth and that detector should get some good depth on large silver , so unless there has been a significant amount of fill dirt or gravel spread out or disruption to the soil ( plowing or dozing , etc. ) you are probably able to reach the larger silver if its there. But every site is different and has a unique history , so this only theory.

Is there a fair amount of trash? If yes, and there are people around the area, then it may well be not hunted, or very lightly hunted. That being the case, try borrowing a PI detector and go over the area again. If there are coins down there, it will find them.
Let us know what you find. HH __________________ |

Went back last night. I put the xlt into the silver program. I got a faint 71 and thought I might want to dig this. It was 8 inches down. I know there is deep silver here and I am learning what to dig. There are a lot of 22 cal. bullet shells all over theplace. They are ringing up about the same.
