Default Got my Lesche and disappointed

....I don't know how to put this, maybe I'm crazy but I just got back from MDing and don't like my Lesche digger that I got for a great price through one of our members, bigboar.First of all its too narrow and flat so it really doesn't help me to scoop out the dirt when I'm getting a target in the woods. It was great for digging a plug in the grass though.I really don't think that I'll ever use it again.I have a cheap one that has a curved scoop look to it and has serrated edges on both sides. It scoops the dirt great and cuts a nice plug.I paid $15 for it on ebay.I never heard anyone say anything negative about it.Maybe I'll give it to someone local that takes me to one one there sweet spots.I was going to let my 9 year old daughter use it but man,its also a weapon. When your on a budget and only get $50 play money a week,it sucks to spend it on a tool that you already have.

I would never take a Lesche into the woods, It wouldn't stand a chance against the roots and the Sandstone where I live. I use the Gerber E-Tool its a digger like the marines use to dig trenches. you should look into getting one

I'd have to climb 3,000 feet or so to find "woods". Ain't gonna happen. I'll keep diggin in the desert and choppin up the little mountain rattlers with my Lesche.

Default Me too

I bought one a few weeks ago and then I bought a Sampson 31 ball handled shovel and the Lesche digger stays in the trunk. The Sampson shovel diggs perfect plugs and it has more leverage and it works in the woods.I have been out 20 times this spring and I love the shovel.

I have to agree with you on the lesche. I only use mine for digging plugs in the grass when I have to be neat about it. In the woods, I use the one pictured below. I have put this little guy to the test and it is holding up incredibly well. I also have one from harbor freight that has a fiberglass handle and also works great.

Don't have many great hunting spots unless you want me to show you the parks I hunt in, but what are you looking to get for it? LOL

I now believe that I'm useing the wrong tool for in the woods use. This is only the second time that I went dirt fishing in the woods.Looks like I'm going to need yet another tool in my arsenal Thanks for all your suggestions and input.I found a great new spot thanks to http://www.historicaerials.com/...awesome site.I took my daughter there today to scout it out and hit a couple of targets.I dug four targets and found what looks like an old wrench or something.....Ummm does anyone feel weird carrying a shovel into the woods ?I'm serious though....

Got to use the right tool for the job, I use my Predator model 85/Lesche digger for parks and yards and general all around digging in grassy areas as well as the occasional rocked parking lot. I wear gloves and scoop the loose dirt out with my gloved hand onto my drop cloth.

For Woods hunting plowed fields etc I bring out what I call my backhoe, my Predator Raven, it makes short work of tree roots or whatever gets in it's way.

Just remember to sharpen the blade of whatever you get.

And NOT razor sharp

I was also gonna suggest the "Raven". I haven't used one, but they are made by the original "Lesche" owner/maker. I did quite a bit of research and ended up with the model 85....but I almost jumped on that Raven and I think, someday I'll get one.

If you do any woods or plowed field hunting the raven works great NebTrac and the good part is you can use it around the house as well. I dug out an old tree/bush whatchamacallit the other day for my honey do list and it had no trouble removing the old shrub. Wife wants a weeping cherry tree in the old shrubs place.

It also cuts nice plugs as it's got a pretty good concave surface, I pretty much retired my old spade.

the two complaints i have with the lesche is....

1. the blade is narrow and doesn't pull dirt outa the hole good

2. the hand guard gets in the way if your diggin a deep hole, unless its a wide hole

other than that it cuts plugs very well and would hold up to anything i have to deal with in my area

i can always grind some of the guard off but there is no way for me to put a better V in the narrow blade.
