Default 525 silver?

Found a silver ring with "525" on the inside along with "China". Has what appears to be a small diamond too. Never heard of 525 silver. It did ring up silver on my machine but I don't know, "China"? I'm thinking I found another junk ring.

Is it possible that it's a worn out 925?

The 5 being a worn 9?

It's a wedding band, most likely white gold, see here for explanation.

525 is the same as 14kt gold as I understand it.

Thanks everyone! Think I'll get it out of the "not quite trash but not quite treasure" jar and put it someplace else. Thanks Again!

I checked it again with a better magnifying glass and sure enough, IT IS 925! Found it about 6 inches down in VERY hard packed soil around an old public swimming pool. Need to take it to a jeweler to make sure, but it is definitely 925!

Congratulations on your find. This might be a good time to invest in your own acid test kit; faster answers when you really want to know NOW!
